Virginia Olson, 86, passed away unexpectedly in the comfort of her home on Monday, March 30, 2015. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at McLaren's Chapel followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery.

Virginia was born October 12, 1928 in Webster, SD to Ole and Thilde (Lensegrav) Floren. She was Homecoming Queen at Washington High School in Sioux Falls, SD in 1946. Virginia worked as a contract writer for the Principal Financial Group for 20 years....

Virginia Olson, 86, passed away unexpectedly in the comfort of her home on Monday, March 30, 2015. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at McLaren's Chapel followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery.

Virginia was born October 12, 1928 in Webster, SD to Ole and Thilde (Lensegrav) Floren. She was Homecoming Queen at Washington High School in Sioux Falls, SD in 1946. Virginia worked as a contract writer for the Principal Financial Group for 20 years. She authored two books and was an accomplished baker. Virginia loved crocheting, crossword puzzles, scratch off lottery tickets and spending time with her family. In addition, she loved to watch her brother Myron on the Lawrence Welk Show on Saturday nights, while sipping a Manhattan.

Virginia is survived by her four children, Robert (Rita) Olson of West Des Moines, Sandy (Evan) Minnick of Des Moines, Mike (Denise) Olson of Urbandale and Julie (Greg) Brandt of Des Moines; nine grandchildren, Alex, Noah, Lisa, Amber, Shelley, Austin, Ashley, Nick and Katie; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Ella, Hazel, Zoe and Leela and two sisters, Genevieve Johnson of SD and Valborg Brewer of CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Olson; three brothers, Myron Floren, Arlie Floren and Dewey Floren; sister, Gloria Peterson and brother-in-law, Bud Olson.
